Food for the Wyrm, a musical project from California, has released its debut album, A Wicked Huntsman. The album is personal and emotional, mixing traditional folk music with punk, metal, psychedelic sounds, and doom-inspired moods.
This project is a new step for singer-songwriter Beau James Wilding. His music has become darker, more thoughtful, and emotionally bold. With Food for the Wyrm, Wilding looks at life’s tough moments and searches for meaning, growth, and change.
A Wicked Huntsman is based on a concept using six native Irish flowers. Each flower stands for a difficult life experience: betrayal, loss, shame, cruelty, addiction, and ignorance. These themes shape the album’s six main tracks, taking listeners through pain, reflection, and resilience.
Rather than dwelling in darkness, the album seeks to illuminate it. Each song explores the process of confronting difficult experiences and emerging with greater understanding and purpose. The result is a record that feels both haunting and hopeful, inviting listeners to reflect on their own struggles and personal growth.

Musically, A Wicked Huntsman defies easy categorization. Traditional folk melodies sit alongside gritty guitar work, drone textures, and atmospheric arrangements that draw on punk and metal influences. The combination creates a unique sound that feels rooted in ancient storytelling while remaining intensely contemporary.
The album consists of eight tracks: three original compositions by Wilding, three traditional songs reinterpreted through the Food for the Wyrm lens, and two classic folk covers reimagined. Each piece contributes to the album’s broader narrative of facing fear, accepting mortality, and finding clarity through adversity.
The album was first recorded in summer 2024 at Analogue Catalogue Studios in rural Ireland. Wilding worked with musician “Irish” Tom, who played bodhrán and shruti box, and Frank Martian, who played electric guitar and synthesizer. Later, additional recording and mixing took place at Castaway 7 Studios in Ventura, California.
The album’s artwork, made by Norwegian artist Zein Hestnaes, adds to the story. The visuals help show the album’s themes of nature, change, and emotional strength.
The name “Food for the Wyrm” reflects the project’s philosophy. It comes from ancient images of the wyrm, a mythical serpent associated with death and the unknown. The project invites listeners to accept that life does not last forever. The message is simple but deep: life is short, time matters, and every moment counts.

For Wilding, A Wicked Huntsman is more than just a group of songs. It explores what it means to be human, reflects on mortality, and reminds us that healing often begins when we face our darkest sides.
A Wicked Huntsman mixes strong emotion, rich music, and thoughtful stories. It presents Food for the Wyrm as an exciting new voice in modern folk music, unafraid to explore dark places in search of hope.
