Welsh alternative pop artist ADERYN has released her latest single, “Please,” offering listeners an emotionally charged glimpse into her upcoming EP, Hot Pink!. The song, available from July 17, is the third single from the highly anticipated project and showcases the singer-songwriter’s signature blend of vulnerability, grunge-inspired production, and honest storytelling.
Known offstage as Lisa Martin, ADERYN has steadily built a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting indie artists. Her latest release explores the emotions of loving someone without knowing whether those feelings will ever be returned. Through intimate lyrics and atmospheric production, “Please” captures the uncertainty, hope, and emotional intensity that often accompany unrequited love.
Produced by Gethin Pearson, whose previous collaborations include artists such as Charli XCX and Orla Gartland, the track combines soft double-tracked vocals, textured guitars, and a gradual build that leads to a dramatic finale. One of its standout elements is the organ performance recorded by Owain Fleetwood Jenkins in a chapel in Pembrokeshire, which adds a powerful, almost spiritual atmosphere to the song’s closing moments.
Speaking about the songwriting process, ADERYN revealed that the track came together remarkably quickly.
“I have a voice memo of me writing this song, and from beginning to end it took just twelve minutes,” she shared. “That’s when you realise there’s a huge amount of emotion inside you waiting to come out.”
She also explained that the song draws strong parallels between romantic devotion and religious faith.
“It’s part of human nature to love without always receiving clear answers in return,” she said. “Once I started thinking about faith as a metaphor for how I felt about this person, the lyrics just flowed naturally.”
Musically, “Please” blends influences from 1990s alternative artists with contemporary indie sounds, creating a rich emotional landscape. ADERYN has cited musicians including Mazzy Star, Elliott Smith, Lucy Dacus, and Du Blonde as inspirations behind the track’s distinctive style.
The single serves as the opening chapter of Hot Pink!, ADERYN’s second EP. The record explores the emotional highs and lows of heartbreak, moving across different musical styles while reflecting on love, loss, healing, and self-discovery. Other tracks on the project include “Feel Nothing!”, a punk-inspired take on modern relationships, “Cross Your Mind,” which imagines stepping confidently back into an ex-partner’s thoughts, and “Victorians,” an emotional closing track built around a hypnotic drum machine rhythm.
Originally from a sheep farm in the Brecon Beacons, ADERYN began her musical journey as a drummer in a grunge band before emerging as a solo artist. Often described as “Cardiff’s Queen of Indie Pop,” she has received support from BBC Radio 1 Future Alternative, BBC 6 Music, Radio X, KEXP, and the BBC Horizons Project, while also earning recognition through the PRS Momentum Accelerator Fund and the Welsh Music Prize Triskel Award.
With “Please,” ADERYN continues to establish herself as one of the UK’s most compelling alternative pop voices, delivering a song that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable.
