Kidsmoke have returned with their new single “I’m Always Getting Carried Away,” released on May 5, 2026 via Libertino. The track marks the band’s first release since their debut album A Vision In The Dark and signals the start of a fresh chapter for the North Wales indie group.
Written on New Year’s Day, the song carries themes of reflection, nostalgia, and renewal. Built around the double meaning of its title, “I’m Always Getting Carried Away” moves between emotional vulnerability and thoughts about time, memory, and mortality. The result is a track that feels bright and melodic while still carrying emotional weight underneath.
Vocalist and guitarist Lance Williams explained that the lyrics came together quickly and were inspired by different interpretations of the phrase “carried away,” both emotionally and physically. Part of the song’s emotional depth was shaped by his experiences visiting a dementia support group, which led him to reflect on how memories connect people and how important small moments can be.
Musically, the single leans into shimmering indie rock, drawing on influences from bands like The Strokes, Bloc Party, and The Futureheads. Bassist James Stickels shared that he wanted the track to capture the simplicity and feeling of early 2000s indie music, written from a place of longing for simpler times.
The chorus opens into an uplifting moment, layered with harmonies and backing vocals, including contributions from the band’s children, adding warmth and intimacy to the track. There are also subtle touches that nod to George Harrison’s melodic songwriting style.
“I’m Always Getting Carried Away” captures fleeting everyday moments, from snowy walks to late-night adventures, while gently reminding listeners to appreciate what is right in front of them.
Known for their dreamy indie-pop sound, Kidsmoke have steadily built a strong reputation over the years. The band previously featured on Black Mirror, earned praise from BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, and were invited by Robert Smith to perform at Meltdown Festival.
