Ant Thomaz is a Glasgow-based singer-songwriter whose sound is shaped by a life lived between cultures, with family roots in the Bayou of southern Louisiana and a creative home firmly planted in Scotland. Blending folk, soul, pop, zydeco, and rock, his music feels instinctive and unforced, built on melody, rhythm, and emotional honesty. Writing songs since the age of twelve, Thomaz brings a deep sense of warmth and humanity to his work, drawing equally from personal experience, heritage, and the small moments that give everyday life its meaning.
His new single, “Good Times Roll,” marks a vibrant new chapter. Written and recorded with the intention of sounding like a “Scottish Mardi Gras,” the track is built around rhythm, community, and feel. Thomaz carefully brought together musicians who could truly live inside the groove, inviting each player’s background and musical language to shine. The song blends influences from Louisiana Mardi Gras traditions, Bollywood, South African sounds, and Celtic music into one unified celebration. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Chris Gordon, the track took nearly a year to complete, with over 60 mixes before capturing the sound Thomaz had in mind: something that feels like joy in motion, no matter where you’re from.
Lyrically, “Good Times Roll” reflects on finding calm within chaos, embracing new beginnings, and learning to move through both good and bad times with greater awareness and balance. Thomaz’s songwriting is led by melody first, with lyrics emerging naturally, often circling themes of self-discovery, frequency, and preserving a youthful spirit. While some may hear optimism as the defining tone, Thomaz embraces it fully, believing that joy, beauty, and self-affirmation are essential tools for navigating life. As a father and husband, those ideas have only deepened, becoming both a personal reminder and a message he hopes listeners can carry into their own lives.
From his early days busking on Glasgow’s streets to performing on major festival stages, Thomaz has built a reputation rooted in connection, community, and authenticity. His journey has included supporting artists such as Happy Mondays and Sheku Kanneh-Mason, earning BBC airplay including spins on BBC 6 Music, and appearing at festivals including Celtic Connections, Belladrum, and Edinburgh Fringe. With “Good Times Roll” ushering in a new phase and his debut solo album on the way, Thomaz is focused on making music that speaks beyond borders, language, or labels, creating songs that invite people to feel present, hopeful, and fully alive.
