Bollywood has been a hub of entertainment, creativity, and larger-than-life superstars. Actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan have dominated the Hindi film industry for decades, becoming superstars and cultural icons.
However, it is almost next to impossible to call any new actor a superstar in today’s time. There are undoubtedly great actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan, Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, and many more, but they have not achieved the stardom the superstars of the 90s still enjoy.
With the rise of digital streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar, the focus of audiences is more on the content from around the world, giving them a big diversification of tastes. Many actors have shifted to OTT platforms to reach the viewers instead of releasing their films at the box office.
Bollywood is increasingly focusing on content-driven cinema, where the story takes the lead over star power. As the increase of digital platforms is changing storytelling dynamics, social media influence, and the tastes of audiences, Bollywood is witnessing new changes, and that’s why new actors don’t fit the traditional style of a superstar.
