Sydney Sweeney has once again found herself at the center of a disturbing paparazzi incident, highlighting the relentless scrutiny and intrusion celebrities often endure. The 27-year-old actor, known for her roles in Euphoria, The White Lotus, and Anyone but You, recently revealed an unsettling encounter where photographers camped outside her Florida home, demanding that she come outside in a bikini.
In a new interview with Glamour, Sweeney recalled how a group of paparazzi refused to leave her property, even going so far as to shout at her family members who were outside.
“They said, ‘If you tell her to just come outside in a bikini, I’ll take pictures and then I’ll leave you alone,’” she shared, shedding light on the blatant harassment she faces.
Beyond being an invasion of privacy, the incident underscores a troubling culture where female celebrities are frequently objectified and pressured into uncomfortable situations for the sake of entertainment.
Addressing False Rumors
Sweeney also took the opportunity to shut down persistent online rumors suggesting that she tips off photographers herself.
“Why would I call the paparazzi to take pictures of me at my own house when my baby cousins and family are there and I’m in my backyard? Why would I ever want that?” she asked incredulously.
The actor shared that the paparazzi have gone to extreme lengths to get photos of her, including hiding in bushes and waiting in kayaks offshore from 8 AM to 4 PM.
“I should be able to be in my home and feel comfortable and safe,” she stated, emphasizing the real-life dangers these invasions pose.
A Threat to Safety
Sweeney pointed out that the release of private images puts her in direct danger.
“When those photos go out, then my actual safety is at risk,” she explained. “Everyone knows where I am. Now there’s boats that go by, and I literally hear them say, ‘This is Sydney Sweeney’s house.’ It becomes a star tour in my front yard.”
For many celebrities, this level of exposure is more than just an inconvenience—it’s a serious security concern. Sweeney’s experience echoes similar concerns raised by other high-profile figures who have had their private lives turned into public spectacles.
Clapping Back at Critics
Beyond the paparazzi harassment, Sweeney has also faced undue criticism about her appearance. In May, she addressed objectifying comments by posting an Instagram photo wearing a sweatshirt that read, “Sorry for having great t**s.”
This came shortly after veteran Hollywood producer Carol Baum publicly criticized Sweeney’s looks and acting ability at an event in Pleasantville, New York.
“There’s an actress who everybody loves now: Sydney Sweeney. I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Anyone but You because I wanted to watch it,” Baum said. “I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’ Nobody had an answer.”
Sweeney later responded through her representative, calling out Baum’s comments as inappropriate and unprofessional.
“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman,” the statement read. “If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels is appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful.”
Advocating for Respect and Privacy
Sweeney’s experiences shed light on the darker side of fame—where personal boundaries are often disregarded, and women in Hollywood are subjected to unfair scrutiny and harassment. As she continues to speak out, her message is clear: celebrities deserve privacy, respect, and safety, just like everyone else.
