In the latest season of Bigg Boss OTT, YouTuber Armaan Malik entered the house accompanied by his two wives, Payal and Kritika, sparking significant controversy. This unconventional family dynamic did not sit well with former Bigg Boss contestant Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who took to social media to express her disdain for what she perceived as the promotion of polygamy on a popular reality show.

Devoleena, known for her outspoken nature, did not hold back in her criticism. She labelled the portrayal of polygamy as ‘disgusting’ and emphasized that such actions should not be trivialized as entertainment. “Do you think this is entertainment? This is not entertainment, it’s filth,” she tweeted. “Don’t make the mistake of taking this lightly because it’s not just a reel, it’s real.”

The actress’s frustration stemmed from her belief that the show, which has a wide-ranging audience including children and the elderly, should not endorse multiple marriages. She questioned the show’s creators, saying, “What do you want to teach the new generation? That they can have 2-3-4 marriages? Everyone can live happily together?” Devoleena’s remarks highlight a broader societal concern about the normalization of polygamy and its impact on viewers, especially younger audiences.

Do you think this is entertainment? This is not entertainment, it's filth. Don't make the mistake of taking this lightly because it's not just a reel, it's real. I mean, I can't even understand how anyone can call this shamelessness entertainment ? I feel disgusted just hearing… https://t.co/BVeVjGrTm2

Polygamy, the practice of marrying multiple spouses, is a topic of considerable debate. In many parts of the world, polygamy is illegal and considered a social and legal issue. However, some cultures and religions permit it under specific conditions. The portrayal of such relationships in mainstream media can influence public perception and potentially normalize practices that many view as harmful or unethical.

India, a country with a diverse population and multiple religious practices, has a complex legal landscape regarding marriage. The Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been working hard towards implementing a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The UCC aims to replace the personal laws based on the scriptures and customs of each major religious community in India with a common set of rules governing every citizen.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee echoed the need for the UCC in her statements, emphasizing that a uniform legal framework could help prevent such controversial practices from being glorified. “This is why the Special Marriage Act and UCC should be mandatory. So that the law is the same for everyone and society can be free from such filth,” she asserted.

Devoleena’s outspoken criticism resonated with netizens, many of whom supported her stance and condemned the reality show for featuring Armaan Malik and his wives. Given the show’s wide reach and influence, critics argue that such representations are inappropriate and irresponsible.

Bigg Boss OTT 3, hosted by Bollywood veteran Anil Kapoor, streams on Jio Cinema and has been a topic of heated discussions since its inception. The inclusion of contestants like Armaan Malik, who openly practice polygamy, has raised questions about the ethical responsibilities of reality TV shows and their impact on societal norms.

As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the show’s producers will respond to the backlash and whether there will be any changes in how such sensitive topics are handled in the future. Undoubtedly, people like Armaan Malik are a disgrace, and those two women, Payal and Kritika, are shameless as well. For now, Devoleena Bhattacharjee’s strong condemnation has sparked a crucial conversation about the intersection of entertainment, ethics, and societal values in modern India.
