Caddy Callaghan, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Melbourne, has just released her new single, “Sweet Fool.” The song is personal, capturing her journey toward lifelong dreams and the feelings that come with believing in love and new possibilities.
Callaghan is known for her heartfelt songwriting and soulful pop-rock style. For over thirty years, she has written music inspired by important moments in life. Her new single follows this path, mixing honest emotion with catchy tunes and meaningful stories.
Callaghan says she wrote “Sweet Fool” during a quiet break while working as a primary school teacher. She sat at a piano in a small music room, and the song started to come together. It reflects her wish to make music full-time, even though she still had teaching duties to return to.
“The song is about following your true dream and inspiration,” Callaghan shared. “I knew where my heart wanted to be, but I also knew I had to return to teaching when the bell rang. It became a reminder to hold onto that dream, even when it felt far away.”
The song features warm piano, layered harmonies, and an uplifting chorus, creating a hopeful but thoughtful mood. Besides encouraging listeners to chase their dreams, it also touches on the feeling of admiring someone from a distance and hoping that love might become real.
Recording “Sweet Fool” was a special experience for Callaghan. It was one of the first songs she worked on with well-known singer-songwriter and producer Rick Price in Nashville. They recorded the track together in March, playing around Price’s grand piano in a cozy, candlelit room that matched the song’s mood. Later, Callaghan added backing vocals in Melbourne with producer Jay Smith through her own label, Cadwyn Clare Records.
“Sweet Fool” comes after her last single, “Wait A Minute,” and gives listeners another preview of her first solo album, There You Are. The album tells the story of Callaghan’s life, shaped by her family, determination, and strong dedication to music.
Callaghan’s songwriting has been recognized by the Australian Songwriters Association and supported by ABC Radio. She has also learned from mentors at Melbourne’s Tuesday Night Song Club, which is led by well-known musicians Mark Seymour, Liz Stringer, and Charles Jenkins.
Besides making music, Callaghan started her own label, Cadwyn Clare Records, and is a mother of three. She manages family life while still creating music on her own.
With “Sweet Fool,” Caddy Callaghan offers more than a touching song. It reminds us that reaching our dreams can take time, but holding on to your passion and believing in yourself makes the journey worth it.
