Waterpistol, an indie band from Cardiff, are building momentum with their new single She Flies, out April 13 on all major streaming services. The song mixes shoegaze and classic rock ’n’ roll, showing how the band’s sound is growing while keeping a nod to the past.
She Flies is already getting noticed. Emily Pilbeam called it “a bit of sweet indie rock.” God Is In The TV described it as “a refreshing blast that shows why fledgling Welsh band Waterpistol hold a ton of promise.” Adam Walton also praised their timeless sound, saying it’s “an exquisite combination of some of my favourite artists.”
This release comes after several big moments for the six-piece band. They were recognized by the BBC Horizons 2026 Launchpad Fund, which supports new talent with help from BBC Cymru Wales and the Arts Council of Wales. After releasing their earlier single Felin and playing a live session with Huw Stephens, Waterpistol is quickly becoming known as one of Wales’ most exciting new bands.
She Flies also gives fans a preview of their debut EP Hey Harry, which will be out this summer. The EP will include recent singles and new songs, highlighting the band’s mix of bright guitars and thoughtful melodies. Songwriter Harry Watton sums up the track by saying, “As any good poet would say, it’s about a lot of things and nothing at all.”

A Band on the Rise
Waterpistol formed in 2023, following the end of earlier creative projects. Their first live show was as a support act for CVC in Cardiff. In their first year, they played at several festivals, including FOCUS Wales, Green Man Festival, Sŵn Festival, and In It Together Festival.
Their first songs, like Living in a Dream, showcased a style that blends vintage rock’s swagger with the dreamy feel of ’90s shoegaze. They take inspiration from bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The La’s, and Shack.
Recording at the famous Rockfield Studios was a big step for the band, who worked there with producer Adam Richards. Lately, they have started recording their new EP themselves, showing their creative independence and growing confidence.
