    UPSC CDS Exam 2 2024: Registration Opens for 459 Vacancies

    The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the commencement of registration for the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination 2, 2024. This prestigious examination aims to recruit talented individuals to serve in various branches of the Indian Armed Forces. With 459 vacancies available, this presents an excellent opportunity for aspirants seeking a career in defence services.

    Vacancy Details

    The vacancies are distributed across different courses and academies, catering to the diverse needs of the armed forces. The Indian Military Academy’s 159th course offers 100 positions, including 13 reserved for NCC ‘C’ Army Wing certificate holders. The Indian Naval Academy course provides 32 positions, with 6 reserved for NCC ‘C’ Naval Wing certificate holders. Additionally, the Air Force Academy Pre-Flying Training course offers 32 positions, including 3 reserved for NCC ‘C’ Air Wing certificate holders through NCC Special Entry. The Officers’ Training Academy’s 122nd SSC (Men) (NT) (UPSC) course has 276 positions, while the Officers’ Training Academy’s 36th SSC Women (NT) (UPSC) course offers 19 positions.

    Educational Requirements

    Candidates aspiring to join the Indian Military Academy and Officers’ Training Academy must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university. For the Naval Academy, an engineering degree is required, whereas candidates applying to the Air Force Academy should have a graduation degree in Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

    Exam Structure

    The selection process for the UPSC CDS Exam 2, 2024, comprises a written test followed by an interview. The written examination is structured differently based on the academy:

    For admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy, candidates will be tested in English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. Each subject carries 100 marks, and the duration for each paper is 2 hours.

    For admission to the Officers’ Training Academy, candidates will undergo tests in English and General Knowledge, with each paper carrying 100 marks and a duration of 2 hours.

    Comments 

    It is noteworthy that the maximum marks for both the written examination and the interviews are uniform across each course. Specifically, the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy have a maximum of 300 marks each, while the Officers’ Training Academy has a maximum of 200 marks.
