When preparing for an MBA interview, it’s essential to be ready for a range of questions that assess your background, motivation, and potential. Here are the top 15 most common interview questions asked by business schools:

    1. Tell me something about yourself.
Answer by briefly discussing your background, experience, and accomplishments. Limit your response to two to three minutes, and highlight key points about the business school or program you’re applying to.

    2. What motivates you to pursue a graduate business degree?
Explain why you want to earn an MBA and how it aligns with your career goals. Highlight the specific skills you aim to develop and their relevance to your desired field or industry.

    3. Why do you want to join this business school?
Share why this business school is a good fit for you. Discuss aspects like faculty, culture, curriculum, industry connections, and job placement rates that attracted you to the program.

    4. Why should we take you in?
Use this question to showcase your unique qualifications and experiences. Highlight your achievements, skills, and how your background will contribute to the business school community.

    5. Discuss your achievements as a leader.
Provide examples of your leadership roles in professional, volunteer, or community settings. Describe the projects you led, the results achieved, and the lessons learned.

    6. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Be honest about your weaknesses and how you’ve worked to overcome them. Highlight one or two strengths that set you apart from other candidates, supported by specific examples.

    7. What aspects of your current job do you enjoy?
Discuss what you like about your current role and how it has prepared you for an MBA. Explain how these experiences have influenced your career aspirations.

    8. What are your immediate and long-term objectives?
Detail your short-term goals and how you plan to achieve them. Connect these goals to your long-term aspirations and explain how an MBA will help you reach them.

    9. How would an MBA help you advance in your career?
Describe why an MBA is crucial for your career progression at this stage. Compare it to other degrees and explain why an MBA is the best fit for your goals.

    10. Are you a team player? Describe.
Provide examples that demonstrate your ability to work well in teams, emphasizing your collaborative and supportive nature.

    11. What would your co-workers, supervisor, or friends say about you?
Highlight both professional and personal traits, giving an authentic picture of yourself. Reference your letters of recommendation if applicable.

    12. How do you make the most of your resources?
Show detailed knowledge of the business school’s resources and explain how you plan to utilize them to achieve your goals.

    13. Have you applied to any other schools?
Be honest about other applications and explain why you chose those schools. Avoid showing a strong preference for one school over another.

    14. Describe a period when you had an inept manager and how you dealt with the situation.
Approach this question diplomatically. Explain how you handled the situation professionally and what you learned from the experience.

    15. Do you have any concerns or inquiries about the school or program?
Prepare thoughtful questions that show your genuine interest and prior research. Avoid questions easily answered by the school’s website or promotional materials.
