Sangeeta Bijlani, a renowned Bollywood actress, recently shared some candid insights into her past relationship with superstar Salman Khan during her appearance on the popular TV show Indian Idol. The actress, who dated Salman Khan for nearly a decade, reflected on the ups and downs of their high-profile romance, revealing some never-before-heard details about their relationship and the wedding that never happened.
Sangeeta and Salman’s relationship began in the early years of their Bollywood careers, after they met during a TV commercial shoot. What followed was a nearly decade-long romance that was the talk of the town. The couple even made plans to marry, with wedding invitations printed and a date set. However, at the last moment, Salman Khan had a change of heart and called off the wedding, leaving fans and the media in shock.
Sangeeta, who had rarely spoken about this chapter in her life, opened up on Indian Idol when a contestant, Manasi Ghosh, asked her about the rumored wedding cards. With a shocked expression, Sangeeta confirmed, “Yes, it is true. Don’t ask me more,” before playfully adding, “Bijli mujh par mat girao. Naam Bijli mera hai. I am done with the confession.”
This revelation was met with surprise from the audience, but Sangeeta seemed to be in a lighthearted mood, joking about how the topic was best left for another day, hinting at a deeper conversation to come with Indian Idol judge Vishal Dadlani later.
Sangeeta also reminisced about the more challenging aspects of her relationship with Salman Khan, particularly the restrictions he imposed on her personal style. Recalling how her wardrobe choices were often scrutinized, Sangeeta imitated Salman Khan’s voice and said, “Jo the na, mere ex. I won’t take the name. I was very constricted that ‘you can’t wear short dresses, the neck can’t look so deep, the dress can’t be shorter than this particular length.’” She explained that initially, she complied with these rules but gradually began to feel uncomfortable with the restrictions, especially as her confidence grew.
“I was very reserved then. I would like to change that part of my life. But, anyway, I changed that. I am who I am now,” she added, emphasizing her transformation into a confident and unapologetic woman. This candid admission resonated with many, as Sangeeta reflected on how she had grown and evolved.
Salman Khan’s Side of the Story
In a previous appearance on Koffee with Karan, Salman Khan also addressed the topic of his near-wedding with Sangeeta Bijlani. He openly admitted that he had cold feet just before the wedding and ultimately called it off. When Karan Johar asked if Sangeeta had ever caught him doing something that led to the cancellation, Salman denied any such incident, laughing off the suggestion.
Though Salman’s side of the story remains lighthearted, Sangeeta’s recent comments shed new light on their relationship, revealing the pressures she faced and her personal growth in the aftermath.
