Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the amazing performances by India’s indigenous dog breeds during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) celebrations held at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on Friday.
In a video shared by PM Modi on social media, the dogs were seen completing challenging obstacle course, jumping over long walls, running through tunnels, and climbing across thin rope ladders. Their display of courage, skill, and discipline won everyone’s admiration.
Sharing the video, PM Modi wrote, “Among the most admired parts of the Ekta Parade were the demonstrations by indigenous dog breeds,” appreciating the efforts of the teams that trained these dogs.
Earlier, during his Mann Ki Baat radio address, PM Modi had encouraged the armed forces to include more Indian breeds like the Rampur Hound and Mudhol Hound in their units. He said that these dogs are better suited to India’s climate and living conditions, making them strong and reliable partners in security operations.
According to reports, around 150 native dog breeds have already been deployed in various operational areas, including the country’s western and eastern borders, by forces such as the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
PM Modi also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at the Statue of Unity on his 150th birth anniversary. Since 2014, October 31 has been observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas to honor Sardar Patel’s efforts in uniting India.
The inclusion and recognition of India’s indigenous dog breeds in national events not only celebrate their loyalty and bravery but also highlight the growing respect for homegrown breeds that have long been part of India’s rich heritage.
