A Seamless Creative Process
The track came together organically, born from a spark of inspiration and a beat from longtime collaborator Dre Manuel, one of Dayton’s most respected producers.
“I had the idea of ‘running back to you’ in mind when I got the beat from Dre,” Luther shares. “Once I heard the first 10 seconds, I already knew the song was done.”
Luther’s process is instinctive and fluid. He starts with melodies – believing that a strong, catchy hook is what grabs the listener first – and lets the words follow naturally. “It probably took me about an hour to write it, and most of that time I was just vibing to the beat.”
Adding another layer of personal touch, Luther engineered the record himself in Logic, drawing on skills honed under Dre Manuel’s mentorship. “When I was first learning how to engineer, Dre took me under his wing,” Luther recalls. “He showed me how to mix, how to put my own sauce on it, how to structure a beat. I hold his opinions in high regard, so when he stamped the record, I knew it was ready.”
