Kapeesh Mourya is a successful stunt-actor in Los Angeles. The India-born professional action-hero has make his mark in Hollywood appearing in movies, TV shows and even network television in a reality show.
We chatted with Kapeesh to get a sneak peek into his upcoming movie ‘Stood Me Up’.
HELLO KAPEESH MOURYA, WELCOME TO BLACKBIRDNEWS! LET’S DIVE RIGHT IN! WHAT IS THE MOVIE ‘STOOD ME UP’ ABOUT?
This is an upcoming project I am working on about two people completely opposite who are on different dates end up being stood up happen to strike a conversation with each other and have good time. It is a sweet romantic comedy. Which also focuses on how life can turn out to be very beautiful even tho it seems it’s all going really bad.
WHO IS YOUR CHARACTER?
My role is for the character of the guy who gets stood up and is always looking at the positive side of life.
ARE YOU ANYTHING LIKE HIM?
Most of the times I try to be but in reality, life is full of mess, and you just can’t overlook all of it stay positive. So, a little bit yes, I am! I do like to focus on the positive things most of the time. And find solutions for my problems and if im not able to do so then just try to forget the problem.
DID YOU HAVE TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL FOR THIS ROLE?
This project has a lot of comedy, it’s a romantic comedy. And usually with comedy the tendency to go over and over act stuff to keep it funny is very high and my task is to keep it subtle and grounded to make it feel more real. I want it to seem very raw and authentic. Cause I truly believe that the beauty of any relationship or a conversation lies in the small very subtle movement or expressions , reactions that people have, and I want to have that captured in this project.
HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED ANY CHALLENGES SO FAR WITH THIS PROJECT?
As the writer for this particular script, it has been a challenge to somehow make Indian puns easier for the American audience to understand. Comedy doesn’t always translate across cultures that well. Especially when the language itself makes a dialog sound funny. So, I had to rewrite a lot of it.
THAT’S EXCITING TO ADD A STRING TO YOUR BOW! CAN YOU TELL US SOMETHING PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Ok! I am a big food guy. Paneer Tikka and pizza are my favorites, but I can cook, and I don’t mean cereal like I can actually cook, and I have cooked on TV.
WHAT’S COMING UP NEXT?
Releasing the movie ‘Stood Me Up’ but alsoto keep working on improving my skill set and adding to it. Also giving some more time to fitness.
