Punjabi actress and model Himanshi Khurana went to the police after getting an email that demanded ₹10 crore and threatened her life. She filed a complaint at the Sohana police station in Mohali, and an FIR has been registered.
Police officials said the email arrived on Thursday and included both a written threat and an audio clip. In the recording, a voice delivers a message before demanding ₹10 crore. Khurana told police the threat has caused serious distress to her and her family, and she has asked for immediate protection.
Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Saurav Jindal said the voice note was allegedly sent by a gangster based outside India. Police are examining digital evidence to trace the origin of the email and audio message. They are also checking references in the threat to Zeeshan Akhtar, who is wanted for the 2024 murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai. Police said there is no confirmed direct link to Khurana’s case so far.
The case has been registered under Sections 308(4) (extortion) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations are ongoing, and officials have said that further action will follow in accordance with the law.
Khurana’s complaint comes at a time when several celebrities have reported similar threats. Recently, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh also reported receiving an extortion threat. In that case, the caller allegedly identified himself as “Harry Boxer,” who is believed to be linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
In another case, a jeweller from Chandigarh got a ₹5 crore extortion threat through WhatsApp calls and messages from an international number. The caller said he was linked to the Davinder Bambiha group. Police have registered a separate case and started an investigation.
Last month, Punjabi singer Dilnoor also filed a complaint, saying he got a threat demanding ₹10 crore in the name of popular singer B Praak.
