Gen Z and Mental Health: Understanding the challenges of a digital age

Growing up in a world where social media, technology, and constant connectivity are part of life, Gen Z people are struggling with exceptional levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.

In today’s digital age, the pressure to have a perfect online persona, compare themselves to others, and constantly seek validation has impacted the mental health of youngsters.

One of the key factors contributing to the mental health struggles of Gen Z is the overuse of social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok, which has produced a culture of comparison and perfectionism where young people feel like presenting themselves as idealized people to the world.

Also, the bombardment of information, even baseless and fake sometimes, in the digital age makes youngsters believe everything they read on social media, filling them with feelings of stress and anxiety.

The imperative thing that Gen Z requires is awareness among them about mental health, so they can be open about the topic if they are going through it. Promoting conversations around mental health can help youngsters feel more comfortable seeking support and resources, and a big role can be played by schools, teachers, and parents.
