Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, known for her powerful performances and graceful personality, is once again in the news, this time for a new controversy. The actress, who has won millions of hearts with her talent, dance, and charm, has also occasionally found herself caught in public debates. Her latest social media post has sparked another round of trolling and criticism.
Recently, Deepika and her husband, actor Ranveer Singh, shot an advertisement for Abu Dhabi Tourism. The ad showcases the culture and beauty of Abu Dhabi, with several scenes filmed inside the famous Sheikh Zayed Mosque. In the video, Deepika is seen wearing a hijab and abaya, traditional Muslim attire, while walking inside the mosque.
After the ad was shared online, Deepika posted a picture from the shoot with the caption “Mera Sukoon” (My Peace). However, this post quickly drew sharp reactions on social media. Many users criticized her, saying she wore the hijab only for money and questioned why she never promotes Indian temples or heritage sites in a similar way. Some even accused her of being insensitive toward Hindu sentiments.
A few angry users wrote comments like, “Deepika can do anything for money,” while another said, “Why don’t you promote India’s beautiful temples?” Others questioned the need to wear a hijab for the ad. Some women’s groups also expressed anger and even suggested that she should move to Pakistan if she supports such acts.
However, not everyone joined the criticism. Many fans defended Deepika, sharing her old pictures visiting temples and attending religious events with her husband Ranveer. They argued that the actress was simply showing respect to local traditions while filming in a mosque, which is a common practice for visitors.
Film critics have pointed out that controversies like these are not new for Deepika. In 2020, she was targeted for visiting JNU during the CAA protests, and in 2022, she faced backlash for wearing a saffron bikini in Shah Rukh Khan’s film Pathaan.
As of now, neither Deepika nor Ranveer has commented on the current issue. Despite the ongoing criticism, her supporters believe that artists should be free to respect different cultures without being trolled.
It seems that once again, Bollywood’s “Mastani” has found herself in the middle of another heated social media storm.
