After working in the dental industry, private schools and finishing her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administrations. Aaliyah decided to follow her dreams and push into the fashion industry by any means.
WHAT IS FASHION TO YOU?
Fashion is a form of expression through clothes. It can stand you out of a crowd. The fun part is, all you have to do is get dressed and be comfortable. The key word is comfortable. When you are comfortable, you are confident …. And nothing beats confidence, no matter what your taste in clothes are.
I grew up on the west side of Atlanta. In school everyday was a fashion show. I remember buying clothes every weekend to make sure I had on something new on Monday morning. I started going to the club at 14 using my older sister’s ID and that’s when I saw street fashion in a different light.
I knew then I wanted to make my own lane.
MUSIC HAS A GREAT INFLUENCE ON STREET FASHION. WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RAP LYRIC MENTIONING FASHION?
My favorite lyric would be from Kanye West “Man I spent $400 bucks on this, just to be like ngga you ain’t up on this” LOL Facts . I remember spending so much money on this big gold men’s chain with a diamond cross (that was influenced by the so icy song by Gucci and Jezzy). Then I remember another time ,I spent $450 on some Dolce & Gabbana shades . I blame Young Ralph for that (Look like money ) LOL. The funny part is , I don’t wear shades . I hate shades. I have like ten designer shades at home collecting dust. That’s a big reason why I started my own clothing line. I use to spend so much money at the mall… it was ridiculous. Now I use that same money to invest in my brand. I rather spend $1000 or more on inventory /marketing, than buying unnecessary things that are trends
or going to collect dust after I wear it 1 or 2 times. My motto is always invest in yourself. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
WHAT ARE SOME TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE A GOOD FASHION STATEMENT?
Patterns (not too much), an expensive or unique designer accessory (it only takes one), a cool hat, neon colors, mixing one bold color with solid colors and last but not least…all black ( you can never go wrong with all black but make sure you spice it up).
